BIAB stands for 'Builder In A Bottle'. It's a strengthening gel applied over your natural nail, thicker than a standard polish, that creates a durable layer to reinforce weak or flexible nails while still looking natural. It's cured under an LED lamp between coats and finished with a gel colour and a high-shine top coat.
BIAB has become one of the most popular nail treatments in the industry, because it looks natural and combines the natural finish with real strength. It's a lot more flexible than acrylic, stronger than a standard gel polish, feels light and comfortable, and it helps support your nail as it grows.
Because it holds the nail together and prevents breakages, BIAB can be applied even on very short nails, which makes it perfect if you're trying to grow your own nails or recovering from picking or biting.

The BIAB Nail Journey
A lot of people start what we call a BIAB nail journey. It takes around six months to get your nails from nail-biting or damaged nails back to long, natural, healthy nails. BIAB holds the nail together and prevents breakages while your own nails grow underneath.
Whether you're recovering from years of biting, or from a set of acrylics that were removed incorrectly, the six-month journey follows a simple pattern: professional application, an infill every three to four weeks, and consistent aftercare between appointments.
Who BIAB Is Right for
BIAB is suitable for almost anyone. You might book in if you have:
- Weak, peeling or bending nails
- A goal to grow your natural nails back after biting or picking
- Recently had nails removed incorrectly and want to protect the regrowth
- A love of gel polish, but keep finding it doesn't last long enough
- A hands-on job (nurses, hairdressers, cleaners, mums with young children) where standard polish just chips
- A history of allergic reactions to gel or acrylic products (please ask about our HEMA-free BIAB)
If you want significant extra length straight away, we'll usually recommend gel extensions, preferably hard gel. We'll talk through the right option at your consultation.
No Filter, Just Results
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Your appointment starts with a proper consultation. We'll talk about your nails, what you want to achieve, and the shape you'd like. Then we prepare properly, because the nail prep is the single most important stage of the whole treatment.
Once your nails are ready, we apply the BIAB in layers, curing each one under an LED lamp. Then we refine and perfect the shape, add your gel colour (a non-chip gel polish) on top of the BIAB, finish with a high-shine top coat, and apply cuticle oil to seal everything in.
A full BIAB set takes around an hour. An infill takes around an hour too. If you'd like nail art, let us know when booking so we can allow extra time.
Aftercare That Protects Your BIAB and Your Natural Nails
If you follow these steps, they will help protect both your BIAB and your natural nails: apply cuticle oil daily to keep your nails flexible and hydrated, wear gloves when cleaning, avoid biting or picking, book in for infills every three to four weeks, and don't use your nails as tools.
Removal (This Is Important)
BIAB should always be removed professionally. Please never peel or pick it off. There are two safe ways to remove BIAB:
- Soaked off in the salon with a proper acetone solution
- Debulked with an e-file and topped up as part of your infill
Incorrect removal (picking, peeling, using your teeth) is the single biggest cause of nail damage that people wrongly blame on BIAB itself.
Who BIAB Isn't Suitable for
BIAB is safe and gentle for most people, but there are a few situations where we'll ask you to book a consultation with your GP first, or we may not treat you:
- Active bacterial infection of the nail or surrounding skin
- Active fungal nail infection
- Certain inflammatory skin conditions affecting the nail area
- A history of allergic reaction to standard gel products (please tell us before booking, we may still be able to use our HEMA-free BIAB)

How long does BIAB last?
Most clients get around three to four weeks out of BIAB. We don't recommend going longer than that, because the growth makes the BIAB unbalanced, it becomes more likely to lift or snap, and the extra length puts stress on your natural nail.
How is BIAB removed?
Always professionally. Never peel or pick it off. We either soak it off with a proper solution, or debulk it with an e-file and reapply at your next infill. Incorrect removal is the single biggest cause of nail damage people wrongly blame on BIAB itself.
Can I have BIAB if I have allergies to nail products?
Please let us know when you book. We stock a HEMA-free BIAB which is a lot gentler on the nail and suitable for many clients with sensitivities to standard gel products. We'll discuss your history at the consultation before we start.
How long does a BIAB appointment take?
