Pigmentation Removal in Rainford, St Helens
Sun spots, age spots and patches of uneven colour can make skin look older and tired, and they are often the first thing people notice in photos. Pigmentation removal targets that unwanted discolouration to help restore a more even, radiant complexion, with minimal downtime.
At Hannah Clarke Advanced Skin and Beauty in Rainford we treat small, medium and large areas, and every client starts with a free patch test and consultation so we can assess your skin type and your pigmentation before treatment.
WhereHannah ClarkeAdvanced Skin and BeautyWhat Causes Pigmentation?
Pigmentation happens when the skin produces extra melanin, the pigment that gives skin its colour, in one area. The most common triggers are:
How Pigmentation Removal Works
The treatment targets the excess pigment in the skin and breaks it down, while leaving the surrounding skin intact. Over the following days, treated spots often look slightly darker before they flake away, revealing more even skin underneath. The pigment that is broken down deeper in the skin is cleared gradually by the body.
Our advanced techniques are designed to be safe and effective with minimal discomfort and a quick recovery, so you can carry on with your day afterwards.
Why We Start with a Patch Test
Every skin is different, and pigmentation comes in different types and depths. Your free patch test and consultation lets us assess your skin type and your pigmentation concerns, check how your skin responds, and tailor a treatment plan to get the best result safely. It also gives you the chance to ask questions and understand the cost of your full plan before you commit.
Treatment Areas and Sessions
Some spots respond after one session, while others need a short course spaced a few weeks apart. We will tell you what to expect for your skin at your consultation.
Aftercare: Protecting Your Results
- Wear a broad-spectrum SPF 50 every day, before and after treatment
- Avoid sunbeds and direct sun on the treated area
- Let any darker spots flake away naturally; do not pick them
- Avoid harsh exfoliants and retinoids on the area for a few days
- Keep the skin moisturised and calm
Pigmentation can return if skin is not protected from the sun, so daily SPF is the most important thing you can do to keep your results. For ongoing support, our sister clinic HC Skin offers Obagi medical-grade skincare, chemical peels and Observ 520x skin analysis, which shows pigmentation beneath the surface.
Raised Spots or Flat Pigment?
Pigmentation removal is for flat marks and discolouration. Raised spots such as skin tags, seborrhoeic keratoses and some age spots are often better treated with Cryopen. If you are not sure what you have, book your free consultation and we will advise you. If a mark has changed in size, shape or colour, bleeds or itches, please see your GP before any cosmetic treatment.

Pigmentation Removal: The Questions Everyone Asks
Is the patch test and consultation really free?
Yes. Your patch test and consultation are free, so we can assess your skin and plan the right treatment before you pay for anything.
How many sessions will I need?
Some spots clear after one session, others need a short course a few weeks apart. It depends on the type and depth of the pigmentation, and we will advise you at your consultation.
Does it hurt?
Most clients describe a quick snapping or warm sensation. Discomfort is usually mild and over quickly.
Can you treat melasma?
Hormonal pigmentation such as melasma can be stubborn and can sometimes worsen with the wrong treatment. We will assess it carefully at your consultation and may recommend a different approach, such as medical-grade skincare or peels.
Is there downtime?
Minimal. Treated spots may look a little darker or redder for a few days before they flake away. Most people carry on as normal.
Will my pigmentation come back?
Treated pigment is broken down, but new pigmentation can develop with sun exposure or hormonal changes. Daily SPF 50 is the best way to protect your results.
