Anti-Wrinkle Injections
Anti-Wrinkle Injections in Rainford, St Helens
Anti-wrinkle injections use botulinum toxin type A to soften dynamic lines and wrinkles, the ones caused by everyday facial movements like frowning, smiling and raising your eyebrows. The active ingredient blocks the nerve signals to specific muscles, allowing them to relax so the overlying skin smooths out. Over repeated treatments, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles at rest also improves.
At Hannah Clarke Advanced Skin and Beauty in Rainford, anti-wrinkle injections are administered by Gemma, a registered nurse of 12+ years and Independent Nurse Prescriber. Because Gemma can consult, prescribe and treat, most clients are able to have their treatment within a couple of days of consultation. Every product used is licensed in the UK and sourced only from registered UK pharmacies, and the right one for you is chosen at your consultation.
Botulinum toxin type A is a Prescription-Only Medicine in the UK, so treatment starts with a proper consultation and prescription, not a walk-in appointment.
Your practitionerGemmaIndependent Nurse PrescriberWhat Are Anti-wrinkle Injections and How Do They Work?
Anti-wrinkle injections are very small doses of botulinum toxin type A, injected precisely into the specific facial muscles that create dynamic wrinkles. The product temporarily blocks the nerve signals to those muscles, so they relax. When the muscle underneath a wrinkle relaxes, the wrinkle softens or disappears.
It's important to understand what anti-wrinkle injections do and don't do:
If lines or wrinkles are present when your face is completely relaxed and static, anti-wrinkle injections alone may not fully address them. Gemma will discuss combining treatments at consultation if that's the case.
The Products We Use, and Why They Matter
There is a very serious problem in the UK aesthetics market with fake and unregulated botulinum toxin products, often sold and administered by unlicensed practitioners who do not source from reputable pharmacies. These can be dangerous.
Gemma only uses products licensed in the UK and sourced exclusively from registered UK pharmacies. She is trained across the licensed products and will choose the one best suited to your treatment plan at your consultation.
As an Independent Nurse Prescriber, Gemma writes the prescription herself, and only for products from a licensed UK pharmacy. That means:
- You know the product is genuine, licensed and MHRA regulated
- You know the storage chain has been correct end to end
- There is no 'grey market' product involved at any stage
- There is a documented prescription for the exact product used in your treatment, kept in your medical record
Your practitionerRainfordMeet Gemma, Independent Nurse Prescriber
Anti-wrinkle injections at Hannah Clarke are delivered by Gemma, and there's a lot in her credentials that matters when you're putting a Prescription-Only Medicine in your face:
- Registered nurse for 12+ years, NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registered and working to the NMC Code of Conduct.
- Independent Nurse Prescriber (INP). This is a senior clinical qualification that lets Gemma consult, prescribe and administer botulinum toxin type A without needing a separate prescriber. In practice, that means a much faster and simpler journey for you.
- Foundation and advanced trained in botulinum toxin type A specifically.
- Member of ACE Complications Management, the leading UK-wide network of aesthetic practitioners for managing rare adverse events.
- Member of BMAN, the British Medical Aesthetic Nurses group, for continuing professional development and peer support.
Gemma will not treat anyone she does not believe is a good candidate, even at consultation. That includes clients who want more product than she thinks is appropriate for a natural result, clients with unrealistic expectations, and clients under 21.
The Prescriber Model, from Consultation to Treatment
Because botulinum toxin type A is a Prescription-Only Medicine, you cannot walk in and be treated on the day of your first visit at any responsible clinic. The journey has two steps:
Step 1: Anti-wrinkle consultation
- You book a full consultation with Gemma
- Gemma takes a detailed medical history and reviews any medication you're on
- Gemma assesses your facial anatomy and the areas you'd like treated
- You agree on a treatment plan, the areas, the product, and the dose
- If suitable, Gemma writes a prescription for the exact product and dose
Step 2: Treatment
- Treatment is booked in for a few days after your consultation
- The whole treatment appointment takes around 20 to 30 minutes
- The injections themselves take a few minutes
- You leave with clear aftercare and next-step advice
For clients who are new to Gemma, allow around a week between initial enquiry and treatment. For returning clients (top-ups within a reasonable window), the consultation can be much shorter.
What Happens During Your Treatment Appointment
On the day of your treatment, Gemma will:
The whole appointment takes 20 to 30 minutes. You won't see anything visible immediately, most of the product is uptaken into the treated muscles within the first 20 minutes, and the full result develops over the following 10 to 14 days.
No Filter, Just Results

Aftercare
For the first 4 hours after your treatment:
- No make-up on the treated area
- No excessive bending or lying down
- No pressure or massage on the treated area
- Avoid any activity that raises your heart rate significantly
After 4 hours, you can generally carry on as normal. Gemma will give you the full aftercare card at your appointment, personalised to the areas you've had treated. If anything looks unusual over the following days or weeks, message the salon and Gemma will follow up.
Who Anti-wrinkle Injections Are Not for
Gemma will not perform anti-wrinkle injections on anyone with:
This isn't a policy to be difficult, this is what a responsible Independent Nurse Prescriber does. If you're unsure whether any of the above applies to you, book a consultation and be honest about it. Gemma will tell you clearly whether treatment is safe for you, and if not, why not.
How Long Do Results Last?
Anti-wrinkle injection results typically last around 3 to 4 months after your first treatment. As the botulinum toxin gradually clears from the muscle, movement returns and lines slowly reappear.
With repeat treatments over time, most clients find results last a little longer between sessions, and the appearance of static lines (the ones present even when your face is relaxed) also improves. If at any point you decide to stop having anti-wrinkle injections, your natural facial movements return fully, there is no permanent change to your muscles.
Anti-wrinkle Injections vs Dermal Fillers
These are two very different treatments that clients often confuse:
Many clients over time have both, addressing different concerns. Anti-wrinkle injections for the forehead, frown lines and crow's feet, and dermal fillers for cheek volume, lip enhancement or jawline definition. Gemma will discuss what actually suits your face and your goals at consultation, rather than offering one product to fix everything.
Common Myths, Addressed Honestly
Myth: 'Anti-wrinkle injections make you look frozen'
Not when they're dosed correctly. A frozen or expressionless look only happens when far too much product is used, or when it's placed in the wrong muscles. Gemma's approach is to use the minimum effective dose for a natural, still-expressive result. If you want a very subtle effect, that's absolutely achievable.
Myth: 'They're addictive, and once you start you can't stop'
They're not addictive. Many clients choose to maintain their results because they like them, that's not the same as being unable to stop. If you decide at any point not to continue, your normal facial movements come back and you look the way you did before. There's no dependency and no rebound effect.
Myth: 'They're dangerous'
Botulinum toxin type A is used routinely in the NHS to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), some forms of urinary incontinence, and to relax muscles in children with cerebral palsy. It has decades of clinical use. It is very safe in trained, regulated hands. It is dangerous only when administered by unregulated practitioners using unlicensed product.
Myth: 'Anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers are the same'
They're not. See the section above. Anti-wrinkle relaxes muscles, filler replaces volume. Two completely different products for two completely different jobs.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections: The Questions Everyone Asks
What are anti-wrinkle injections?
Anti-wrinkle injections are small doses of botulinum toxin type A, a Prescription-Only Medicine that temporarily relaxes specific facial muscles to soften dynamic wrinkles.
Do I need a consultation first?
Yes. Because botulinum toxin is a Prescription-Only Medicine, treatment can only take place after a full consultation and prescription. As an Independent Nurse Prescriber, Gemma can consult, prescribe and treat, so treatment is usually booked in for a couple of days after your consultation.
How much do anti-wrinkle injections cost in Rainford?
Anti-wrinkle injections at Hannah Clarke are £130 for one area, £170 for two areas, £220 for three areas and £260 for four areas. Advanced areas are priced at consultation.
How long do anti-wrinkle injection results last?
Typically 3 to 4 months after your first treatment. Results often last a little longer between repeat sessions.
Do anti-wrinkle injections hurt?
A very fine needle is used and most clients describe it as a small pinch. The injections themselves take just a few minutes.
Will I look frozen?
Not when the treatment is dosed correctly. A frozen look happens only when too much product is used. Gemma's approach is a natural result where you still have expression.
Are anti-wrinkle injections safe?
Botulinum toxin type A is used routinely in the NHS for medical conditions including excessive sweating, incontinence and muscle spasticity. It has an excellent safety record when administered by trained, regulated practitioners using licensed product. Gemma is a Nurse Prescriber, ACE Complications Management member and BMAN member, and uses only licensed UK product from registered pharmacies.
Can I have anti-wrinkle injections while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. Anti-wrinkle injections are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Gemma will not treat during either.
What's the difference between anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers?
Anti-wrinkle injections relax muscles to soften wrinkles caused by movement. Dermal fillers add volume to replace lost fat or reshape features. Different products for different jobs.
What products do you use?
Only products licensed in the UK, sourced from registered UK pharmacies. Gemma is trained across the licensed products and chooses the one best suited to you at your consultation.
What if I decide to stop having anti-wrinkle injections?
Your natural facial movements return fully. There's no permanent change and no rebound effect. Lines gradually reappear as they would have done without treatment.
Can I combine anti-wrinkle injections with other treatments?
Yes. Anti-wrinkle injections are often combined with dermal fillers, Profhilo or skin boosters, and skin health treatments like microneedling or Obagi skincare. Gemma will discuss the right combination for your goals at consultation.
