Sculptra Collagen Treatment in St Helens

Look tired? Feel like your face has changed? Noticing gentle sagging or a loss of firmness that no cream is fixing? Sculptra is one of the most natural, subtle anti-ageing treatments available. It doesn't change how you look, it reminds your body how to make its own collagen again, so you gradually look fresher, healthier and more like yourself.

At Hannah Clarke Advanced Skin and Beauty in Rainford, St Helens, Sculptra is delivered by Gemma, an independent nurse prescriber specialising in medical aesthetics.

What is Sculptra?

One of the biggest misconceptions about Sculptra is that it's a filler. It isn't. Sculptra is a collagen stimulator. Its main ingredient is poly-L-lactic acid, which has been used safely in medicine (including in the NHS) for many years.

Rather than sitting under the skin like a traditional filler, Sculptra encourages your own body to produce new collagen. From our mid-twenties, we lose around 1% of collagen each year, so our faces gradually lose volume and firmness. Sculptra basically reminds your body how to make collagen again.

Because Sculptra works with your own biology, results appear gradually over several months. Rather than looking as if you've had 'work done' overnight, people just start commenting that you look really well.

The benefits of Sculptra

• A gradual, natural result, nobody knows you've had a treatment
• Stimulates your own collagen production
• Long-lasting: results typically last around two years
• Improves skin quality, firmness and facial support
• Works especially well for clients told they look 'tired'
• Uses poly-L-lactic acid, a medical-grade ingredient with a long safety record
• Delivered with a blunt-tipped cannula, less bruising and swelling

Who Sculptra is right for: Most people who come to see us for Sculptra say something like 'I look tired', 'my face has changed', or 'I'm noticing some sagging'. They don't actually want filler, they just want to look fresher, healthier and more like themselves.

What to expect at your appointment

Every Sculptra journey starts with a proper consultation. Gemma will assess your skin and skin turgor (a pinch-and-pull test) and look at where you've lost collagen and volume.

The treatment itself is quicker than most people expect. Sculptra is mixed with sterile water and local anaesthetic. Gemma uses a cannula (a blunt-tipped straw, not a needle), which lets her treat a larger area with fewer entry points. The whole treatment takes around 30 to 45 minutes.
Afterwards, your face or neck may look a little swollen. That's completely normal, and it's just from the water Sculptra was mixed with, not the product itself.

Aftercare and results

You'll be given a little aftercare pack with a timer to take away with you. You need to massage the treated area five times a day, for five minutes each time, for five days. That keeps the product moving so it sits correctly and gives you the best result.

Most people notice subtle improvements from around week six to eight, and results continue to build over three to six months.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long does Sculptra last?
>
Results typically last around two years, sometimes longer. Smoking, excessive sun exposure and a poor skincare routine can shorten longevity.

Most Sculptra clients choose to have one maintenance treatment a year, just to keep collagen production stimulated.
Sculptra vs filler vs Profhilo: Which is best
>
p>Three treatments people often mix up.

Sculptra vs filler: dermal fillers replace volume immediately. Sculptra doesn't replace volume in the same way, it encourages your own collagen to rebuild gradually and improves your skin quality, firmness and facial support over time.

Sculptra vs Profhilo: Profhilo is essentially like giving your skin a really big drink of water, brilliant for hydration and glow. Sculptra is focused on rebuilding collagen and restoring facial support.

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a collagen stimulator, not a filler. Its main ingredient is poly-L-lactic acid, which has been used safely in medicine (including in the NHS) for many years. Rather than sitting under your skin like a traditional filler, Sculptra reminds your body how to make its own collagen again.
How is Sculptra different from filler?
>
Filler replaces volume immediately and is great for structure or definition in a specific area. Sculptra doesn't replace volume in the same way, it encourages your own body to rebuild collagen gradually, which improves skin quality, firmness and facial support over time.
Is Sculptra the same as Profhilo?
>
No. Profhilo is a hydration and skin quality treatment. Sculptra rebuilds collagen and restores facial support, so it's better for clients with more noticeable collagen loss, skin laxity or volume changes.
Does Sculptra hurt?
>
The treatment is comfortable for most people. Sculptra is mixed with sterile water and local anaesthetic before treatment. We use a cannula (a blunt-tipped straw, not a needle), which lets us treat a larger area with fewer entry points, so there's less bruising, swelling and trauma.
When will I see results?
>
Sculptra doesn't give instant results. Real, subtle improvements start to appear from around week six to eight, and results continue to build over three to six months.
How long does Sculptra last?
>
Results typically last around two years, sometimes longer. Most clients choose to have a single maintenance treatment once a year.
What's the aftercare?
>
The most important part of Sculptra aftercare is the 5-5-5 massage: massage the treated area five times a day, for five minutes each time, for five days. We give you a small aftercare pack with a timer to make it easy.
Are there any myths I should know about?
>
Three we hear most often: Sculptra doesn't make you look 'filled' because it's your own body producing the collagen. Sculptra isn't permanent, results last around two years but not forever. And surgeons are sometimes reluctant to perform a facelift immediately after Sculptra, but this is easy to plan around.
