Anti-Wrinkle Injections in Rainford, St Helens

Anti-wrinkle injections use botulinum toxin type A to soften dynamic lines and wrinkles, the ones caused by everyday facial movements like frowning, smiling and raising your eyebrows. The active ingredient blocks the nerve signals to specific muscles, allowing them to relax so the overlying skin smooths out. Over repeated treatments, the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles at rest also improves.

At Hannah Clarke Advanced Skin and Beauty in Rainford, anti-wrinkle injections are administered by Gemma, a registered nurse of 12+ years and Independent Nurse Prescriber. Because Gemma can consult, prescribe and treat, most clients are able to have their treatment within a couple of days of consultation. Products used are Azzalure and Relfydess from Galderma, sourced only from licensed UK pharmacies.

Anti-wrinkle injections are commonly known by the trademarked brand name Botox®. Botulinum toxin type A is a Prescription-Only Medicine in the UK, so treatment starts with a proper consultation and prescription, not a walk-in appointment.

Meet Gemma, Independent Nurse Prescriber

Anti-wrinkle injections at Hannah Clarke are delivered by Gemma, and there's a lot in her credentials that matters when you're putting a Prescription-Only Medicine in your face:

• Registered nurse for 12+ years, NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) registered and working to the NMC Code of Conduct.
• Independent Nurse Prescriber (INP). This is a senior clinical qualification that lets Gemma consult, prescribe and administer botulinum toxin type A without needing a separate prescriber. In practice, that means a much faster and simpler journey for you.
• Foundation and advanced trained in botulinum toxin type A specifically.
• Member of ACE Complications Management, the leading UK-wide network of aesthetic practitioners for managing rare adverse events.
• Member of BMAN, the British Medical Aesthetic Nurses group, for continuing professional development and peer support.

Gemma will not treat anyone she does not believe is a good candidate, even at consultation. That includes clients who want more product than she thinks is appropriate for a natural result, clients with unrealistic expectations, and clients under 21.

What are anti-wrinkle injections and how do they work?

Anti-wrinkle injections are very small doses of botulinum toxin type A, injected precisely into the specific facial muscles that create dynamic wrinkles. The product temporarily blocks the nerve signals to those muscles, so they relax. When the muscle underneath a wrinkle relaxes, the wrinkle softens or disappears.

It's important to understand what anti-wrinkle injections do and don't do:

  • They soften dynamic wrinkles (the ones that appear or deepen when you frown, smile or raise your eyebrows).

  • With repeat treatments, they also improve the appearance of fine lines at rest, because those muscles have been prevented from setting deeper creases.

  • They do not replace lost volume or lift sagging tissue. That's what dermal fillers are for.

  • They do not hydrate the skin. That's what skin boosters like Profhilo, or a good skincare routine, are for.

If lines or wrinkles are present when your face is completely relaxed and static, anti-wrinkle injections alone may not fully address them. Gemma will discuss combining treatments at consultation if that's the case.

The products we use, and why they matter

There is a very serious problem in the UK aesthetics market with fake and unregulated botulinum toxin products, often sold and administered by unlicensed practitioners who do not source from reputable pharmacies. These can be dangerous.

Gemma uses Azzalure and Relfydess, both botulinum toxin type A products from Galderma, and sourced exclusively from registered UK pharmacies. She is trained in all licensed UK botulinum toxin products (Azzalure, Bocouture, Botox®, Relfydess and others) and will use the product best suited to your treatment plan.

As an Independent Nurse Prescriber, Gemma writes the prescription herself, and only for products from a licensed UK pharmacy. That means:

  • You know the product is genuine, licensed and MHRA regulated

  • You know the storage chain has been correct end to end

  • There is no 'grey market' product involved at any stage

  • There is a documented prescription for the exact product used in your treatment, kept in your medical record

What happens during your treatment appointment

On the day of your treatment, Gemma will:
• Review your medication history and confirm that nothing has changed since your consultation.
• Confirm your consent and check that you still wish to proceed.
• Take photographs for your medical records: relaxed face, frown, smile, and eyebrows raised, so she can see the exact muscle movement patterns.
• Mark the injection points precisely on your face.
• Administer the injections using a very fine needle. The injections themselves take just a few minutes.
• Talk you through aftercare and book any follow-up if needed.

The whole appointment takes 20 to 30 minutes. You won't see anything visible immediately, most of the product is uptaken into the treated muscles within the first 20 minutes, and the full result develops over the following 10 to 14 days.

How long do results last?

Anti-wrinkle injection results typically last around 3 to 4 months after your first treatment. As the botulinum toxin gradually clears from the muscle, movement returns and lines slowly reappear.

With repeat treatments over time, most clients find results last a little longer between sessions, and the appearance of static lines (the ones present even when your face is relaxed) also improves. If at any point you decide to stop having anti-wrinkle injections, your natural facial movements return fully, there is no permanent change to your muscles.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Common myths, addressed honestly
>

Myth: 'Anti-wrinkle injections make you look frozen'

Not when they're dosed correctly. A frozen or expressionless look only happens when far too much product is used, or when it's placed in the wrong muscles. Gemma's approach is to use the minimum effective dose for a natural, still-expressive result. If you want a very subtle effect, that's absolutely achievable.

Myth: 'They're addictive, and once you start you can't stop'

They're not addictive. Many clients choose to maintain their results because they like them, that's not the same as being unable to stop. If you decide at any point not to continue, your normal facial movements come back and you look the way you did before. There's no dependency and no rebound effect.

Myth: 'They're dangerous'

Botulinum toxin type A is used routinely in the NHS to treat excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), some forms of urinary incontinence, and to relax muscles in children with cerebral palsy. It has decades of clinical use. It is very safe in trained, regulated hands. It is dangerous only when administered by unregulated practitioners using unlicensed product.

Myth: 'Anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers are the same'

They're not. See the section above. Anti-wrinkle relaxes muscles, filler replaces volume. Two completely different products for two completely different jobs.
